The next education step is National Legion College. This is a week-long session conducted at National Headquarters in Indianapolis. The training is to prepare Legionnaires for service at the Department and National levels. Participation is typically limited to two students from each department and expenses are paid by the departments. Graduates are expected to continue to serve the Legion.
Many graduates of the National College now serve as both white and red cap Legionnaires.
The decision making as to who will attend from Minnesota is usually done with input from the Education Committee, the Department Adjutant and the Department Commander and is based on perceived abilities and potential for future success as an American Legion Leader.
